Nike drops Manny Pacquiao after derogatory comments toward gays
7:51 PM“I'm sorry for hurting people by comparing homosexuals to animals,” Pacquiao wrote. “Please forgive me for those I've hurt. I still stand on my belief that I'm against same sex marriage because of what the Bible says, but I'm not condemning LGBT. I love you all with the love of the Lord. God Bless you all and I'm praying for you.”
Pacquiao also served as a pitchman for Wonderful Pistachios and Nestle, although representatives for both companies said they don’t have him under contract currently.
“Wonderful Pistachios is not currently affiliated with Manny Pacquiao nor do his views align with ours,” Wonderful Pistachios spokesperson Jennifer George told USA TODAY Sports. “Wonderful Pistachios stands firmly for diversity and equality and we proudly support marriage equality and inclusion around the world.”
Like Wonderful Pistachios, Nestle worked with Pacquiao as recently as 2015, according to spokesperson Roz O’Hearn.
A petition was launched on Change.org by Rutgers University graduate student Aries Dela Cruz on Tuesday urged Nike to drop Pacquiao.
“Pacquiao's expressions of homophobia and bigotry disqualifies him from being honored, endorsed and sponsored by one of the world's largest publicly-traded and owned athletic companies, particularly one that is celebrated and well-known for their promotion of sportsmanship and excellence,” Dela Cruz wrote in the petition that had more than 1,600 signatures as of noon Wednesday.
Activists have also attempted to get the #droppacman hashtag to trend on social media.

8:58 PM
When ultimate suspension efficiency and control on
the trail are required, nothing compares to the Specialized Brain.
Found on the Epic and Stumpjumper HT XC race machines, and
super-versatile Stumpjumper FSR trail bike, the Brain has been refined
and tuned to perform on varying terrain for the sport’s most demanding
riders. The Epic is the first full-suspension bike to win a
Cross-Country World Championship (it’s won several in fact), and in each
of those victories riders were propelled to victory aboard the
one-of-a-kind Brain shock. Not only the go-to choice for full-suspension
endurance racers, the trail-tuned Brain shock has elevated the
Stumpjumper FSR above and beyond its legendary status.
INFOGRAPHIC - TRIATHLON GEAR | TRIATHLON BASICS
10:19 PMA look at 15 basic, but essential, gear pieces you’ll need for your first race.
The sport of triathlon has three simple disciplines—you swim, you bike, you run. But you need a few key pieces of equipment to get yourself from the start line along the water’s edge to the finish line. And despite what you see at races–all the lightweight this and carbon fiber that–you don’t have to break the bank to get from point A to point B. Here’s a list of the bare essentials you really need to be ready for training and race day.
Bike
Duh. Hard to do a triathlon without a bike. What kind do you need? If you’re just getting into the sport and doing your local sprint race, it can be your beach cruiser or mountain bike. If you’re diving in with an Olympic-distance race, we think Dad’s old 10-speed will do the trick. If the tri bug bites you, then you can start thinking about getting a more appropriate bike, maybe with clip-on aerobars. But for now, any bike will do. Be sure to take it to your local shop to be sure everything’s tight and safe, that the tires are aired up and that the chain is lubed (nothing like hearing squeak squeak squeak for 10 miles). Don’t worry about feeling fast just yet—that’ll come later.
